Dr Vivienne McVey
Chief Executive Officer
One of the founders of the business, Dr McVey qualified in medicine at the University of Cambridge and she began her career in 1986 as a GP in London and Beaconsfield. She went on to become chair of the Professional Executive Committee of her PCT, a front runner in developing practice based commissioning and new ways of delivering health services in the community. Vivienne has overseen the growth of Virgin Care since it began and has most recently led our national transformation programme. Dr McVey has been a member of the Virgin Healthcare Holdings board since 2011.
Dr Pete Taylor
Chief Medical Officer
Peter qualified in medicine in 1987 from the University of Leeds and began his career as a GP in Yorkshire. As well as primary care, Peter worked in a wide variety of medical fields including disability assessment and occupational health, before his career took him into medical management and leadership. Peter has a wealth of experience working with the public and independent sector developing and implementing quality programmes to improve health and social care and meet professional and regulatory standards. Peter joined Virgin Care in 2010, where he leads our quality function providing clinical leadership to all of our services across the country. Peter says he’s passionate about quality and making things better, and helping others innovate and transform the care they provide to everyone
Chief Operations Officer
Kings College, London (BA Hons), Manchester and Birmingham Universities (MSc), Oxford (Ox.Dip) John has global experience across all components of health systems, gained through working in multiple NHS provider organisations as well as in the private sector and international sector. In previous roles, John led operations, transformation and turnaround of NHS and private sector health services and was a member of the UK Department of Health Future Thinking Group. John joined Virgin Care in April 2020 to lead operations across the organisation. Our business units all report in to John. John is passionate about improving the health of people, food, and charity work.
Chief People Officer
Samantha has worked in various HR leadership roles since 2006, mainly in the public and third sector, including Police, Prison Service, Local Authority and Education. She has also held a number of senior roles in the Health and Social Care Sector, including Public Health, Welfare, Offender Health, Learning Disability and Mental Health services. She has a breadth of experience in delivering large scale change and transformation programmes, mobilising new services/products and as a Chartered member of the CIPD she specialises in Organisational Development, Design, Engagement and Leadership Development. Samantha joined Virgin Care in 2017 and later took up the role of Chief People Officer in November 2018, when she also became a member of our Executive Team. Through the design and execution of our people and service strategy Samantha has led the organisation to embrace new, innovative and effective people and workforce initiatives that enables us to attract, develop and retain the very best talent. Significant achievements include a year on year improvement in our organisational engagement scores, the adoption of local workforce plans across all of our operational services (focusing on workforce planning, development and recruitment) and the roll out of a new performance management framework. Samantha is passionate about the people agenda and bringing it to life in a meaningful way so that it resonates, motivates and inspires all colleagues. She believes her primary purpose as CPO is to help shape and create a work environment that will enable people to thrive and bring their best self to work. She is a strong advocate for colleague health and wellbeing and empowering people to own and drive local improvements which in turn transform lives, making a difference to the people we support.
Chief Financial Officer
David has a proven track record in finance management, business development and corporate strategy within the healthcare sector. He started his career in the healthcare industry over twelve years ago, beginning as a consultant and providing service redesign and commissioning expertise to the NHS. David joined Virgin Care as Head of Business Development in 2009, having had the central role in developing and executing the strategy for the growth of the business. Some of his key accomplishments include winning over £900million revenue from NHS contracts as well as being awarded Virgin Care Star of the Year in 2012. After working for the largest healthcare service provider in the UAE for five years, David re-joined Virgin Care in 2018 as Director of Commercial Finance, with the responsibility of overseeing the commercial performance of all Virgin Care services. At present, David is Virgin Care’s Chief Financial Officer, overseeing property, procurement, group finance, as well as commercial finance, legal, corporate governance and contract management.
Chief Transformation Officer
Anita has been with Virgin Care for 11 years and has been an Ops Director for 5 of those years. Building on her success in various operational and commercial roles, Anita was appointed as Chief Operating Officer in 2016. Anita has worked in the NHS since 1995, initially in finance and commissioning roles before joining Virgin Care (then Assura Medical) in 2007. Passionate about providing services that are responsive to those who need it, by empowered front line colleagues who get the best outcomes. Anita has recently returned from Maternity leave and is currently undertaking the new role of Chief Transformation Officer. This role brings together Service Design, IT and Business Development. She will also oversee the Brilliant Basics Critical project as per our strategy. Anita says she finds that caring for the most vulnerable within our society is the most rewarding part of the work she does.
