Our board

Our people help to make Virgin Care one of the most innovative providers of health and social care, with many of our colleagues caring for people 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

David Bennett

David trained as a physicist, obtaining a D.Phil from Oxford University before starting his career first as a research scientist. David’s long and wide-ranging career includes many senior roles in the public and private sector, including as former Head of the Number 10 Policy Unit under Prime Minister Tony Blair. David also spent several years as Chairman and Chief Executive of Monitor where he was responsible for the economic regulation of the health sector and for overseeing around two thirds of NHS trusts with a combined £46bn turnover. As a result, he has extensive knowledge of the Health and Social Care systems. Since leaving Monitor David has worked with a number of businesses that are seeking to help the NHS deliver better services to its users. In these and other roles David has gained significant hands on and board-level experience of building, re-structuring and running a variety of businesses. David became chairman of Virgin Care in October 2019, however, he still retains a close interest in science and technology. Since his work in No.10 and Monitor, he has become very interested in how innovation - in processes and systems as well as technology - can be used to deliver better healthcare for people.
