I am delighted to have signed Virgin Care up to the Social Mobility Pledge, which will mean our organisation will be working with others to make a real difference to social mobility in the workplace.
We have many initiatives at Virgin Care which help support people from a wide variety of backgrounds and circumstances get into work and then progress in their careers, from partnering with local colleges and providing hands-on apprenticeships to becoming a fully committed disability-confident employer. We provide equal opportunities for our entire workforce regardless of their background. As part of the pledge we will be sharing our good practice with others and learning how we might improve other areas from them.
It is great knowing that we are doing our part by helping make society a fairer place for people from all backgrounds and circumstances. As always, if you have any great ideas which can help us improve social mobility at Virgin Care, I would love to hear them.
Our next steps include meeting former government minister Justine Greening – who leads the Social Mobility Pledge programme – along with her team to discuss our aims and ambitions for social mobility. Together, we will develop a thorough action plan, creating a detailed roadmap towards how our social mobility ambitions will be delivered while setting a standard for other health companies to be inspired by. We will have regular reviews with Justine and her team in order to ensure that we can maximise the impact of the project and to create wider and more accessible pathways into healthcare occupations for those from less privileged backgrounds.
