Innovative parenting programme coming to Burnley

Are you a parent who could use your experiences to support and help others in giving their children the best start in life?

EPEC (Empowering Parents Empowering Communities) is a unique and innovative programme run by parents, for parents, that is coming to Burnley.

Lancashire Healthy Young People and Families Service, run by us, has worked closely with Lancashire County Council and Lancashire Violence Reduction Unit in the securing of funding to deliver the parenting programme.

Ewan McHenry, our Programme Manager said: “This is an exciting project that will be accessible to parents across the Burnley area. This isn’t about professionals delivering theory to parents, but parents themselves using their experience to help others in their community. This programme has made a real difference in other areas, so we’re really looking forward to getting it off the ground in Burnley.”

County Councillor Shaun Turner, Lancashire County Council’s cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said: “This is a great opportunity for parents to work together and help each other.

“Parents are encouraged to participate in the sessions and share their experiences, enabling them to develop skills and strategies to address the challenges that they face.

“The parenting programmes will increase access to support across Burnley and will make a real difference to the community.”

The Burnley EPEC Programme Hub is currently recruiting parent group leader volunteers to participate in training and deliver the programme from January 2021. All parents who volunteer to get on board will receive extensive training, supervision and support towards becoming a parent group leader.

The EPEC team will be running two virtual coffee and chat sessions to enable you to find out more about the parenting programme in Burnley on:

Thursday 3rd December from 1.30 – 2.30pm

Wednesday 9th December from 10.00 – 11.00am
