Lisa Edwards is completing an apprenticeship as a Senior Health Care Support Worker in the Essex Child and Family Wellbeing Service run by Virgin Care in partnership with Barnardo’s.
Lisa applied for and was offered the role of a Health Care Support Worker with the understanding that she would complete the apprenticeship to equip her with the skills and knowledge needed for the role. She is based at Northlands Park Family Hub in Pitsea.
Lisa has a dedicated study day every week to complete her coursework. The work is all online, so can be carried out from her workplace or at home, allowing her the flexibility she needs to complete the course.
Lisa, who is 50, is set to complete her apprenticeship in February next year when she hopes all her hard work will help her to gain promotion.
Lisa’s advice to any colleagues interested in taking up an apprenticeship is, “Give your current role your best effort, making the best of what you have already and enjoy it while you keep applying for an apprenticeship.”
