Sexual health testing at home increases across Grimsby and Scunthorpe

More and more people are using postal testing kits for their sexual health testing across Grimsby and Scunthorpe, ever since Virgin Care introduced its online sexual health hub in 2017.

More than 340 testing kits (pictured right) per month are now being requested online compared to only 100 when it first launched, with three quarters (75%) of tests being returned to the Northern Lincolnshire Integrated Sexual Health Service.

This return rate benchmarks higher than the national average (55%) and regionally (52%) for self-testing. People can access self-testing via www.thesexualhealthhub.co.uk, which also provides a portal of information, 24/7 advice online and allows people to find their nearest clinic and book appointments.

Jill Ladlow, Service Manager and Consultant Nurse for Northern Lincolnshire Integrated Sexual Health Service, said: “It’s fantastic to see that more and more people are using our online tools to ensure they get tested and are returning their tests to us.

“In the last year alone, we’ve helped more than 9,000 people in our clinics in Grimsby and nearly 11,000 in Scunthorpe, delivering free confidential treatment and advice on sexual health issues, offering all methods of contraception, emergency contraception, and giving people free condoms.

“Meanwhile, self-testing for Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea, HIV and Syphilis offers local people greater choice of how to manage their sexual health.”
